Our
Story

The Kelp Conservation Initiative is a not-for-profit organisation, based in the UK, dedicated to the preservation and restoration of kelp ecosystems. Our mission is to protect kelp habitats through research, education, and hands-on restoration efforts.

With the Marine Biological Association and Newcastle University, we are working on an active kelp restoration project, which will inoculate (seed) and translocate juvenile kelp species. As part of this work we are funding a PhD student to study the ‘green gravel’ restoration method.

We work closely with fishing and seafood industry partners, who are committed to supporting the protection of the marine environment.
